My hobbies include ping pong and chess.
Ever since I was a child growing up in Brooklyn, I was always attracted to martial arts. I was just a teenager when Bruce Lee took the martial arts world by storm. I fell in love with Kung Fu movies and knew that someday I would find a way to learn from a real master. Much later in life, I was searching for a Kung Fu school for my daughter and that is how I found Doctor Ahn Tran’s school. I enrolled my daughter and watched for a couple of months. Then at the age of 42, I made the decision to try it. Amazingly, began to gain energy and many of my old physical injuries started to heal. The unique form of Qi Gong that Doctor Tran incorporates into our style is certainly what did it. Two things in particular come to mind from the very first level. First, an ankle injury that I got when I was around 15 vanished. It had bothered me on and off for all those years and suddenly at an age when things should be getting worse, not better, it just stopped nagging at me. It never came back. Second, a shoulder injury that I got when I was about 16 or 17 from playing a racket game called paddle ball (it’s a NY thing!) also healed. This one was different though. It actually healed stronger than it was before I got the injury. I know this because when I was kid, I never was very good at throwing a football. I could catch it, but my shoulder lacked the power to really throw it very well. After my shoulder healed, I tried to throw a football. To my astonishment I threw a nice tight spiral that had a lot of zip on it. You could imagine what a motivational feeling that was for me. These are the kinds of experiences I now have the privilege and honor of sharing with others when I teach them the very precise method that Sifu Tran has trained me to do. My wife and my daughter are also completely entrenched in our style as well so for me, I get to spend quality time with my family while I am practicing and teaching. Chan Qi Fa has improved my lifestyle more than I can ever wish for!
